Jules Girardet - French Academic Painter (1856-1938)

Jules Girardet was a painter of genre born in 1856 at Versailles to Swiss parents who were French Nationals. He was a pupil of Cabanel at the School of Fine Arts.

Girardet also painted historical compositions, amongst which there is The Siege of Sargossa. Another three of his compositions were inspired by F. Coppée, these being; The Route of Cholet, in the Rath Museum; The Revolt of Fouesnant, in the Museum of Quimper and The Disaster of Quiberon.

Jules Girardet exhibited regularly at the Salon and was awarded a third class medal in 1881 and a bronze along with money in 1889 for his works. He also took part in a number of expositions in Paris, the provinces and in Switzerland....
